One walk. One message. One Bharat, standing for peace.

About this Event

Peace is not something that simply happens to us. It is a choice – quiet, deliberate, and renewed every day by those who make it.

The world's numbers tell us how often that choice is being missed. Global peacefulness has now declined for twelve consecutive years, and 119 countries are less peaceful today than they were in 2008 – nearly three out of every four nations on earth moving further from, not closer to, peace. The past year alone recorded 61 active state-based conflicts, the highest number since the Second World War, and the global economic cost of that unrest reached nearly US$21.81 trillion – over a tenth of the entire world's GDP.

These are not abstract figures. They are the compounding cost of choices made – between listening and dismissing, between meeting a stranger and fearing one, between building bridges and building walls – repeated at scale, across borders, for over a decade.

Bharat has always stood for a different choice – one of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as one family. But that choice does not sustain itself. It has to be renewed, deliberately and visibly, by those who carry it forward.

#I am Peace is one such moment of renewal – spiritual and religious organisations, communities, and individuals coming together, each answering the same quiet call: to walk toward one another, and to carry the message of peace a little further than it stood before.

#I am Peace is scheduled for 20th September to commemorate the International Day of Peace (21st September) – joining a global observance initiated by the International Spiritual Council of Transforming Humanity (ISCTH). On this day, Kolkata becomes Bharat's voice in that worldwide call, carried forward by countless citizens across the globe walking as one.

"Peace is the true nature of every being, and upon realising it, there is no internal struggle or resistance to expressing one's emotions. In peace, one experiences total acceptance, all-inclusiveness and total freedom."
